Brush Type 2 Sister Dora moves to Spa Valley

CLASS 31 No. 31430 Sister Dora has joined the Spa Valley Railway fleet on an extended visit.

The loco is owned by Martin Staniforth and arrived on October 17 from the Mangapps Railway, where a comprehensive restoration had been undertaken.

No. 31430 Sister Dora entered traffic on the Spa Valley Railway during the autumn diesel gala on October 21. It is seen at Pokehill Crossing heading the 12.00 Tunbridge Wells West-Eridge service. HOWARD LEWSEY

Running numbers carried previously by this loco have been D5695, 31265, 31430 and 31530.
The name was originally applied to the loco at Bescot Yard on October 9, 1988.

Sister Dora was a Church of England nun and nurse, Dorothy Wyndlow Pattison, who worked in Walsall hospital caring especially for railway workers who had suffered industrial accidents. She died in 1878.

The loco will be in operation at the Spa Valley Railway on December 29-30.
