SCOTRAIL has confirmed one of the biggest timetable changes for many years will take place from December 9.
The move follows various major infrastructure schemes having come to fruition and the arrival of new trains.
ScotRail says the expanded timetable will deliver faster journeys, extra seats, and more services for its customers, including the introduction of InterCity HSTs and more Class 385 electric trains and electric services on the Glasgow/Edinburgh-Stirling-Dunblane-Alloa route.
Average journey times between Edinburgh Waverley and Glasgow Queen Street via Falkirk High will be reduced from 51 minutes to 47 minutes using Class 385s, and journey times from Stirling to Edinburgh, and Glasgow-Stirling/Alloa/Dunblane will be reduced by more than five minutes.
Ex-Great Northern Class 365 EMU will work the Edinburgh to Dunblane route in place of ‘385s’, which will gradually take over as more trains are delivered. Class 385s will replace diesel units on the Glasgow to Dunblane route.
