ONE of Britain’s earliest railway stations now features significantly improved facilities for passengers after a lengthy upgrade costing £18.95million.
Newton-le-Willows has received a new main entrance and ticket office on the south side of the line and other improvements, including a new subway, stairs, lifts, toilets and waiting facilities, plus expanded 400-space car park, cycle parking and a new bus interchange.
The station dates from the opening of the Liverpool & Manchester Railway in 1830.
