THE Talyllyn Railway (TR) has bought a key piece of land alongside its Pendre Works, comprising two cottages on Frankwell Street and land opposite the West Shed at Pendre known as ‘The Orchard’.
General manager Stuart Williams said: “The price being asked for both cottages and the land was deemed to be reasonable, and so it was decided a small group would view the properties and make a recommendation to the board and council.

“As a result of this visit, both bodies unanimously agreed we should pursue the option to buy the cottages and the land. We are therefore delighted to report we exchanged contracts in late-January on the two cottages and the land.
“The cottages – a four-bed and a two-bed – appear structurally sound. They have been bought from one owner, who had inherited them. One of the properties latterly had a tenant. Both houses had their roofs replaced three years ago, but they are in need of internal refurbishment.
“A decision on their future has yet to be made – options are being considered for their use. This might include volunteer accommodation, letting or sale.”
