The Rail Trolley Trust is launching World Wickham Day on April 22 – celebrating all things Wickham in the UK and around the world.

D Wickham & Co Ltd was the main British manufacturer of rail trolleys. The 100th anniversary of railway vehicle production at Wickham’s Ware factory occurs on April 22 this year, as the Wickham Works List shows Works No.1 being despatched from Ware on this date in 1922.

This was a 3ft 6in Gauge Type 10 Trolley, fitted with a Dorman 4MV engine which was supplied to the Tal Tal Railway in Chile, a British Company.

“It therefore seemed that April 22, 2022 was an appropriate day to launch World Wickham Day,” a statement from the trust reads. “A day to celebrate all things Wickham, not just in the UK but also all over the world, as over the last 15 years the trust and its predecessor online groups have built up connections with many owners, operators, restorers and enthusiasts across the globe.

“Our aim on the day is to get as many individuals and organisations as possible posting Wickham and Wickham-related items on their websites, social media, and photo sites using the following hashtags #WorldWickhamDay #WickhamofWare #WickhamTrolley #WickhamRailwayVehicle #WickhamIndustrial and #TheRailTrolleyTrust.

“We hope that the first World Wickham Day will not only spread knowledge of this great British Company, its history and its products, but will also draw attention to the activities of the trust.”
