Southern Atlantic heads for the Great Western
New-build Brighton H2 Atlantic Beachy Head will make its first trip away from the Bluebell Railway this spring when it visits Didcot Railway Centre for a weekend of celebrations showcasing all that the former GWR depot has to offer. The award-winning locomotive will appear at the centre’s May 23-25 Heritage in Motion weekend, which will see as many of the museum’s working assets as possible out and being used.

Hot on the heels of Railway 200 comes a year in which the volunteer-led heritage sector celebrates its 75th anniversary, that of the revival of the Talyllyn Railway in 1951 by transport historian Tom Rolt, who had just become a pivotal figure in the movement to save Britain’s inland waterways for generations to follow, as highlighted in a special feature in this issue.
‘Let’s get heritage line link done’ – railway peer
Former Network Rail and Heritage Railway Association chairman Lord Peter Hendy, one of the highest-profile and influential advocates of the UK’s heritage railway movement, has recorded an enthusiastic personal message supporting the project linking the Rother Valley Railway with its neighbour, the Kent & East Sussex Railway. Lord Hendy, who became Minister of State for Rail at the Department for Transport on July 8, 2024, is encouraging donations to be made to the project’s buildings appeal for the RVR’s Robertsbridge base.
Remembering Annesley: 9F renumbering pays tribute to key depot
Six decades after one of its main sheds was closed, the Great Central Railway’s first big gala of the year on January 22-25 revived a once-local locomotive by temporarily renumbering a real one. A special feature pays tribute to a depot serving the route which included Loughborough to Leicester.
