Steam nostalgia and railway history at its best, Steam Days is the monthly magazine dedicated to all steam railway enthusiasts.

Here’s what to expect this month…

Llanelly Area freight trip working

Steve Bartlett looks back to November 1964 and Llanelly’s fast disappearing steam-hauled freight trip working, servicing local collieries and heavy industry from one of south-west Wales’s last operational steam sheds.

Somerset & Dorset – I witnessed the Slow Death of a railway

Sixty years since he talked his way into getting a cab ride on the last S&D Down service train to run in daylight, Kevin Byrne presents a personal view of the run-down of the railway in his latter school days at Chilcompton.

Mystery locations

Well known for his etched brass model railway nameplates but since January 2022 also a regular Steam Days author, 1952-54 saw Chris Gordon Watford photographing the railway scene to inspire model railway projects. We present a handful of the photos recorded on these travels that became ‘unknowns.’

And there’s lots more to delve into, but you’ll have to find that out for yourself! If you’d like to read the March issue of Steam Days magazine, then you can cut to the chase and order yours here, or better yet save those pennies and subscribe to Steam Days magazine.
