SHEFFIELD City Region has revealed its long-term plan to increase rail travel over the coming years.
The Rail Plan is designed to take advantage of the planned north and south connections to HS2 Phase 2b and the proposed Northern Powerhouse Rail (NPR) scheme.

It envisages a new station at Goldthorpe, linking Barnsley and the Dearne Valley towns into the Northern Powerhouse Rail network; a 4.5 mile loop from the East Coast Main Line serving Doncaster to Sheffield Airport (DSA); a new main line station on the Midland route in Rotherham; and a new station serving housing and technology park developments at Waverley, near Treeton, on the Sheffield to Worksop line.
