Spa Valley diesel gala success

THE Spa Valley Railway’s August 2-4 diesel gala was successful financially, attracting 1,438 visitors, including dining train passengers.

The event showcased two loco types rarely seen in the South East, both making their class debuts on the railway.

Scottish Sulzer Type 2 No. 27001 appeared courtesy of the Class 27 Locomotive Group at the Bo’ness & Kinneil Railway, and was due to stay until the end of the month or middle of September, but this was possibly going to be revised.

Smartly turned out Class 42 ‘Warship’ No. D821 Greyhound, visiting the Spa Valley Railway gala from the other SVR, departs Groombridge with 2T04, the 10.15 from Eridge to Tunbridge Wells West on August 3. Behind the loco, and part of coach set B, is ‘Queen Mary’ brakevan No. ADS56296, accommodating 20 standing passengers for no extra charge. Picture: JOSH BRINSFORD 

The other was the Diesel Traction Group’s Class 42 ‘Warship’ No. D821 Greyhound set for return to the Severn Valley Railway on September 1.
