THE A1 Steam Locomotive Trust (A1SLT) has announced it has received pledges for more than two-thirds of the £5million required to complete its new-build Gresley ‘P2’ 2-8-2 No. 2007 Prince of Wales.
Since its launch in late-September 2013 around 930 supporters have signed up to the ‘P2 for the price of a pint of beer per week’ (£2.50 each week) covenant scheme, which nets more than £205,000 per annum.
Over the duration of the project this is estimated to be worth more than £1.5million.
Additionally, individual component ‘clubs’ have secured considerable financial support for the project.
■ The Boiler Club, which aims to fund the construction of the boiler through 300 supporters each donating £2,000, has reached 180 members, with around £450,000 donated
■ The Motion Club (target – 175 supporters each donating £1,000) has reached 151 members, with £186,000 donated
■ The Tender Club (launched in April to fund the construction the tender through 250 supporters each donating £1,500) has reached 41 members.
■ The Mikado Club and the Cylinder Club – raised £250,000 and £120,000, respectively.
