Another Spalding show success

So successful was the Spalding Model Railway Club’s annual show at the Springfield Exhibition Centre over the weekend of November 3-4 that long queues had formed before the doors even opened on both days, and continued for much of the morning.

Inside the crowded halls, the enthusiastic visitors craned their necks to get close to the many magnificent layouts on display, or search for much-wanted items on the numerous trade stands.

The aim of the Spalding Model Railway Club is to improve the skills and enjoyment of individual members through railway modelling in a friendly atmosphere.

Members of all levels of skill, knowledge and experience are welcome, and are encouraged to become involved with the numerous layouts and projects that are currently under construction.

The club has an enthusiastic junior section, in which members between the ages of 10 and 16 are upgrading and exhibiting their own layout. Although the juniors are responsible for the actual construction processes, experienced help is always available should they require it.

There is a strong social side to the club, too, with a small library and seating areas within the club room for those who just want to sit and chat.

The exhibition is manned and run by volunteers and members of the club, and this year’s event boasted 10 layouts in Hall 1 and no fewer than 21 in Hall 2, not to mention demonstrations from
Tony Wright, Richard Dockerill, John Emerson, Paul Bason and the Waveney O Gauge Group.
