A JOINT entry by Danish and Czech designers beat more than 120 designs from 19 countries to triumph in a competition to create a new generation of passenger footbridges for British stations.
Gottlieb Paludan Architects, of Denmark, and Strasky, Husty and Partners, of the Czech Republic, presented a bridge which was judged to have “convincingly addressed the wide range of practical challenges whilst offering a bold, elegant and uncluttered response that would create an uplifting experience to suit many contexts”.
The competition was run by Network Rail and the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA), seeking designs for a new type of fully accessible footbridge.
Ideas were judged on innovation, how they challenged presumptions about such structures, and raised expectations for the quality of future design.
