This is an intriguing book and it details all serious rail accidents and collisions across Yorkshire from 1840 to the most recent, a freight train collision in 2022, reports Pip Dunn.
Each incident is given a brief review of what happened, what caused it and what action was taken in regards ascertaining the most likely cause and apportioning any appropriate blame.
There are images of the incidents, if any exist, newspaper cuttings and some images of the sites as they are today. The accidents are listed in chronological order, although Penistone seems to have been an especially accident-prone area with ten incidents recorded there between 1882 and 1927 alone.

An interesting book that’s very readable and enjoyable. Those who sadly lost their lives are recorded in the appendices.
